Shine School Partnership

Our vision is to see mutually transformative relationships create real and lasting change in our schools, neighborhoods, and in our city. New City Church is supporting Mission Avenue Elementary School and Del Norte High School. Here are opportunities to get involved with staff support, student enrichment or family development.

Volunteer at Mission Avenue

Whether you have 1 hour per week or just a couple hours per month, consider these opportunities:

• Workroom or Classroom help (assist staff with various tasks to ease their load, help students in the classroom, or even assist with tutoring where needed)

• Monthly T-Bird Store (organize prizes, set up store, help kids redeem their T-Bucks!)

• Lunch and Recess Buddies (eat with kids or organize activities at recess)

• Stem Lab (continual organizing and replenishing supplies)

• School Garden (Annual Earth Day Clean up or keep it functioning through the year)

• Teacher Appreciation (providing meals, or delivering gifts and encouragement)

• Help at School Events (fall carnival, clean up days, Play Day, etc)

Laundry Love

• Clean clothing contributes to every person’s dignity. A few times per year we partner with Spin Cycle Laundromat on Montgomery to provide free laundry services and supplies to families experiencing material poverty.

• You can donate quarters or join in the next event, Dates TBD.

Gift Mart

• Contact us to be part of the Gift Mart planning team to make this community outreach a success!

• Gift Mart is a Christmas store where our community can purchase affordable gifts for their children. It provides gifts for kids at Christmas, the gift of dignity for an adult to provide for their family, and all proceeds go directly to help other families in ABQ.

  Each Christmas we reach 50-80 families, providing gifts for more than 200 children while building relationships with our community. Your time and generosity are what will make Gift Mart possible! You can be part of organizing the gift donation drive this fall, and help plan this amazing event.

Getting Ahead Workshop

Getting Ahead is a 16 session workshop for families of students in APS Title-1 Schools who wish to improve their economic stability.
