At New City we love kids and we take their faith seriously. We see our children’s ministry as much more than childcare. We strive to provide a safe, fun, creative, and nurturing environment for kids to grow in relationship with Jesus.
Little ones learn that God made them and Jesus loves them by singing songs and playing in a warm and nurturing environment.
Toddlers enjoy learning Bible stories through active storytelling, and play.
Preschoolers learn Bible truths through creative storytelling, games, and crafts.
(1-5 grade): Elementary kiddos celebrate God and learn the gospel through large group worship and teaching. They apply these truths in small groups that encourage a sense of community.
At New City, our guiding statement is that we follow Jesus: on Mission and in Community. This statement was deduced straight from the Gospel, and the model of the church and Christian living that was detailed in the New Testament. So everything we do is filtered through this lens. We follow the same model with our children as we do with adults. You will see these three guiding principles play out every Sunday in Kids' City.
we follow jesus
Jesus said “Come Follow Me.” (Matthew 4:19, Mark 1:17, Matthew 19:21) To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. (1 Peter 2:21) We are to turn from everything else in our life and follow Jesus whole-heartedly.
Our ministry exists to help families and children know God’s Story of Redemption through Jesus as revealed by his Word and actively become a part of that Story. Our focus moves beyond simply filling heads with Bible stories and head knowledge. Our ultimate goal is heart knowledge. We want children to identify with the Story of the Bible and find their place in that Story. Our hope is that children become active and willing participants in the Story itself while growing in their personal relationship with Jesus.
We have been sent out to follow HIS mission to restore a world that is lost and broken. “Come follow me, Jesus said and I will SEND you out to fish for people.” Matthew 4:19. “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.” John 17:18.
Mission is approached on 3 levels:
1. Those around me- serving family members, neighbors, teachers, and friends.
2. Those in my community- learn to identify and serve the needs of our city.
3. Those in the world- Children will learn about different places in the world, the needs that exist there, and how they can make a difference.
Children are taught that they are all missionaries where they live and go to school. God has sent us into the world to join His mission of restoring a world that is lost and broken.
Children participate in “missions projects” on a regular basis. Projects are chosen with kids in mind and have included things like: Collecting shoes for a homeless shelter, making bags of necessities for the homeless, and organizing and packing food for families in need.
We have been born into a new family, a community of belonging. (1 Peter 1:22-23). The Word of God creates an enduring community life and love. “Welcome one another, just as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7)
Children participate in small group time every week. This time is modeled after community groups. Children will begin to see their story fitting into God's story through this time of sharing and praying for each other. Teachers reinforce and model what it means to follow Jesus and how this is the center of everything we do. Through real life application, children will continue to understand the relationship they can have with Jesus and the decisions and steps of faith they can take.
