New City exists to be like Jesus in community and to our community. Jesus is on a mission to rescue and replenish a world lost and broken by sin, thereby “making all things new” (Revelation 21:5). This is the mission that New City shares with Jesus. Jesus rescues, restores, and renews; and New City is a part of that story. We are a “Missional Church.”

We would like this to also reflect in what we do with our kids, and so will be introducing a New Direction in Kid’s City. We are going to follow God’s leading and Jesus’ teaching and create a “Missional Children’s Ministry”.

Missional children’s ministries exist to help families and children know God’s Story as revealed by his Word and actively become a part of that Story. Missional children’s ministries want families and children to:

Discover who God is, Experience his love for them, Live the way God wants them to, and Bring God’s Kingdom to their world.

We have identified four key areas that will be our focus each month. (Each week of the month will have one of the following titles.)

The first area we will focus on we call “Kids in the Word”. It is impossible for families and children to become missional disciples of Christ without learning God’s Story of redemption that is weaved throughout the Bible. There are lots of stories in the Bible, but all the stories together tell one Big Story: The Story of how God loves his children and comes to rescue them. It takes the whole Bible to tell this Story. And at the center of the Story, there is a baby. Every story in the Bible whispers his name.

Through memory verses, fun and engaging activities, and the stories within the award- winning Jesus Storybook Bible, your children will discover that Jesus loves them and that he is the Great Rescuer!

The next area we will focus on we call “Kids in Community.” This will be a time where the children will experience

christian community. They will present prayer requests, pray for their friends and teachers. They will apply this month’s story to their life. They will spend time focusing on and developing their personal relationship with Jesus.

The third area of focus will be “Kids on Mission”. Children will engage in mission’s minded activities. Children will learn to use their spiritual gifts. They will learn to identify needs and understand that they can make a real difference. Children will learn about real missionaries and what those in our church are doing to assist in God’s restoration.

The final area of focus we call “Kids Being Kids”. Kids use play to formulate new ideas, to understand the world around them and to develop relationships. Play is an important part of children’s ministry and we will use this time further review the Story for the month using games and play.

Please pray with us for God’s guidance and provision and we take these new steps.
