Who Wrote the Bible, and Why Does it Matter? (Rodger Rushing)
It’s a strange fact that we've never known with certainty who wrote what is arguably the most influential book of all times. In this class we’ll focus on the central books of the Old Testament and explore biblical, historical, and archaeological evidence to try to uncover the identities of some of the authors, and ask ourselves how these ideas impact the way we read and approach the Holy Scriptures.
About Rodger: Rodger grew up in the Land of Enchantment before moving to Oklahoma where he earned his bachelors degree in theology from Southern Nazarene University. He then went on to complete a masters of theological study at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he also became and ordained elder in the church of the Nazarene. About two years ago, Rodger's journey brought him back to NM, and a little over a year ago he found our community here at New City. Rodger says that he is excited to be a part of the teaching team, and he is looking forward to what God has in store for New City.
The Next Step (Dr. James Shorter)
At New City we are strongly committed to the mission of Jesus. The Next Step will give you an introduction to what we are about at New City. You may be new to our community and you want to know how to take the next step in with our church. You may be new to faith and you want to take a next step with Jesus. This class is designed to be a primer to get you going in your walk with Jesus at New City. We are excited to host you and to help you to progress on your journey with God.
About James: I was born in the UK and lived there until I married my wife, Meghan, in 2009. We have a 2 year old daughter Zoë who keeps us extremely busy. I have lived in East Africa for 2 years, 1 year in Kenya and 1 year in Tanzania. The year I spent in Tanzainia was working on my engineering research for my PhD in environmental engineering and, more importantly, where I met my wife. For the last 7 years I have taught engineering at both the college and high school level. I've been involved with leading small groups ministry for over 10 years and really enjoy the fruit that can come these groups. I'm really excited to be part of the Journey teaching team, and am passionate about the Bible and how it speaks to us about the character of God and living as an active community of believers. I also enjoy tackling and researching difficult questions about faith.
