When Jesus sent out his disciples to tell the story about God's rescue mission, he gave them a command to "go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." Baptism is the way God has given us to mark our discipleship. To be a disciple is to be an apprentice. An apprentice follows a leader and tries to become like their master teacher. Baptism is a part of becoming like Jesus as his disciple.
